School robotics team beats 120 other schools to win Guinness World Record Breaking Robotics Competition.
Queen Elizabeth School in Barnet are beaming after their recent win at the VEX Robotics National Finals at the Telford International Centre.
The event, sponsored by leading software firm Autodesk and global security giant Northrop Grumman, attracted over 120 primary and secondary school teams from across the UK.
Each team competed in a series of robotic challenges across four days.
The school scooped the Teamwork Champion and Design Award, and Excellence Award means Queen Elizabeth School automatically qualify for the World Championships in Louisville, Kentucky, will be jetting off, robot in hand, to represent the UK on the world stage at the end of April.
Michael Noonan, Head of Technology at the school said:
“This has been an incredible experience and to know that our teams hard work and effort has been rewarded is just magnificent.
“As a mentor and teacher of the team, I know just how passionate these young people are about robotics and how much they deserve the praise.
“They are the engineers of tomorrow and they’re feeling confident about giving it their all the VEX Robotics World Championships alongside the top young robotic minds on the planet.”
Among the schools Friern Barnet School also competed in the championships but were ultimately defeated by QE Boys.
The Friern Barnet team, Lonebiter, won the Judges Award as a result of their commitment and ingenuity.
