Campaigners called for the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan to resign over Brexit and the way he has “normalised murders.”
UK Unity, a grassroots group, staged a protest outside City Hall during the Mayor’s Question Time earlier today.
They chanted: “We want a new Mayor of London, Sadiq. It’s time for you to go.”
David Clews, who launched the group in 2017, wants Mr Khan to quit due to the spike in violent crime since January.
He is also angry about his decision to allow an inflatable balloon of US President Donald Trump to fly over London during a protest in July.
Mr Clews said: “All the murders in London have become normalised on Sadiq’s watch.
“We don’t just blame Mr Khan but he is the Mayor of London so the buck stops with him.
“As the Mayor of London, we need someone tough who is prepared to stand up those in power.”
There have been over 100 murders in the capital this year.
Although the group is calling for Mr Khan to be replaced, Mr Clews admits he has no idea who would be the best candidate to replace him.
UK Unity was set up in reaction to what Mr Clews dubbed a “Brexit betrayal” by the Government. the group is worried the decision to leave the EU will not be “respected” by UK politicians.
He says the group is non-partisan and does not align itself with a particular political party.
Mr Clews added: “We want decent people involved in politics, there needs to be a purge of the political establishment.”
The group has started an online petition calling for Sadiq Khan to be sacked, so far it has nearly 13, 500 signatures.
He also calling for more stops and searches to be performed by police in the capital to reduce violent crime levels.
He added: “People stay stop and search is discriminatory, but would people rather be marginalised or be dead? Sometimes you have to be brutal.”
