Southgate's favourite accessible theatre group, Chickenshed, has announced its new season, inspired by and featuring presentations of a classic theatrical form.

The group's 2018 spring season, monolog, will feature two plays from renowned playwrights Alan Bennett and Diane Samuels. Bennett has become known for his incredibly poignant plays, all of which utilise the monologues in new and profound ways, most notably in Talking Heads, which was brought to the small screen starring Patricia Routledge.

As for Samuels, her play Kindertransport, about a Second World War child based on real life accounts, has been lauded for its depth and emotional intelligence and has been performed all over the country.

Bennett's Her Big Chance, one of the monologues from Talking Heads, will be performed as part of the new season. The story follows a wannabe actress in the 1980s who thinks she has found her big break in a film for the West German market. The monologue exposes her naivety in a kind and funny way, and is a thrilling piece to be brought to life.

This Is Me, by Samuels, is a newly-commissioned autobiographical piece, exploring monologue as a way to invite the audience deeper into the story of a young mind.

The plays will be performed at Chickenshed Theatre, Chase Side, Southgate, N14 4PE, from February 6 - March 3.
