A new library is open to the public after a redesign and renovation.
Church End Library in Regents Park Road, Finchley, is open following a redesign and relocation three minute walk from its old site.
The library is one of four "core plus" libraries which offer the most extensive range of services and opening hours, after a recent consultation has led to changes to opening hours and facilities at all 14 libraries in the borough, all of which remain open.
Church End along with Colindale have been opened in brand new buildings and so far, 11,000 residents have signed up to use the new technology-enabled service to enter using a pin code during unstaffed hours.
Cllr Reuben Thompstone, chairman of the Children, Education, Libraries & Safeguarding Committee, said: "I recently paid a visit to the new library in Church End and was greatly impressed by this modern and spacious new development. "It is a welcome addition to the Finchley Community and I’m sure library users will also be pleased with this fantastic new facility.
"The introduction of the self-service facility means that local residents will now be able to access the library at times convenient to them. Staff will also be on hand in the initial weeks to assist people in becoming comfortable with the new service."
There will also be a host of events held at the newly opened library as part of the Barnet Libraries Festival taking place over October.
The self service opening hours will have a 'here to help' team for the first few weeks, then the hours will extend once users are more comfortable with the system.
