Labour's Mike Katz believes he is the “proactive, engaged” candidate for the Hendon constituency.
Mr Katz, who campaigned for Andrew Dismore in 2015 and was a London Assembly candidate for Barnet and Camden, wants to bring truly affordable housing to the borough, more places and funding in schools and a referendum on the Brexit deal, as well as less means-testing for benefits to the elderly.
On housing, Mr Katz is concerned not enough pressure has been placed on Barnet Council to ensure affordable housing is truly affordable, and to work as “proper partners” with developers and residents over regeneration .
He said: “Affordability is a concern for the majority of families and the council’s record is lousy.
"People want a strong Labour MP to stand up for them.”
For many, however, the idea of Jeremy Corbyn is a concern, but Mr Katz believes the important factor is your MP.
He said: “Whatever your concerns are nationally, it’s not Jeremy Corbyn’s name on the ballot, or Theresa May’s, it’s mine.”
Mr Katz also said he felt West Hendon estate residents’ treatment was “shocking”, that the Conservative party are “intent on a lottery” for welfare benefits to the elderly and that he would be “a strong advocate” for Hendon in the case of TfL cuts.
On Brexit, Mr Katz believes EU nationals in the UK have been “utterly voiceless”.
He added: “I’ve committed to calling for a second referendum and if there’s not one nationally I’ll run one in Hendon and be guided by the outcome.”
“If you’re worried about direction of the UK in Brexit negotiations, cuts to schools and the NHS, you need us.”
