Your correspondent Beth Davis (Scandalous claims against FACT are slanderous', Letters, April 19), whilst correct in condemning Avenue House Estate Trust (AHET) in relation to the misappropriation of the Bothy and its subsequent vilification of the Finchley Arts Centre Trust (FACT), does not go far enough in pointing out the astonishing behaviour of AHET.

Not only are AHET's allegations against FACT untrue, but they do not constitute (even as they stand) sufficient justification for eviction.

A temporary suspension of the Bothy's activities would have been adequate to meet any misgivings that they might possibly have had.

One of AHET's main complaints against FACT was on the matter of insurance cover, yet the board of AHET never once asked to see FACT's insurance certificates, which are, and always have been, readily available for inspection. It appears, on the contrary, to be more prepared to believe its own version of events rather than face up to the truth.

AHET, in seizing a valuable property which does not, and never has, belonged to them, has not only behaved in a manner unbefitting of a charitable organisation but has further compounded the injustice by publicly denigrating its victims.

What sort of society are we living in that allows such action to go unchecked by authority?
