Plans are under way for Brent Cross Tube station to become step-free by 2019.
The new lift will cost £10m, with the majority expected to come from developers.
Brent Cross will also be the first station to use a £76m fund set up last year to improve access.
The announcement came as the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, brought forward a target for more than half of tube and rail stations to have step-free access by 2018.
His previous target was 2020.
