Plans to redevelop part of the former Golders Green Police Station site for housing are due to be discussed tomorrow night.
The proposals would see a five-storey building, consisting of nine flats, built on part of the Finchley Road site.
Two buildings would be demolished, although the main station building facing the road would not be affected.
Barnet council received 58 letters objecting, which raised concerns about noise, traffic and parking, and “uncertainty” over what may happen with the front building.
Objections were also received about the five-storey block being “uncharacteristic” of the surrounding area.
However, 14 letters were received supporting the plans, which included the fact it would provide “much needed” housing in the area.
In a report, council officers added the distance of the building from neighbouring properties would prevent it from appearing overbearing or unduly dominating.
The site will include no affordable housing, as it does not meet the necessary criteria.
The police station was shut in 2013 and sold by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime to save money.
Former police officers based at the station, which was built in around 1913, previously told the Times Series the sale would remove a piece of social history from Golders Green.
Officers have recommended the plans for approval, which will be discussed by the Finchley and Golders Green area planning committee in Hendon Town Hall tomorrow night.
