The BBC has been running trailers for a new sketch show featuring Harry Enfield blacked up as Nelson Mandela.
Having reported Councillor Brian Gordon to the Commission for Racial Equality for dressing up as Mr Mandela, can we assume that Liberal Democrat spokeswoman, Stieve De Lance, will make a complaint about the BBC, lest she be accused of political opportunism?
Similarly, will Hendon MP Andrew Dismore table another Early Day Motion accusing the corporation of racism?
I dare say that Mr Dismore knew full well that Mr Gordon did not intend to cause offence when he dressed up as Mr Mandela, but it is a tried and tested trick of New Labour to jump on any bandwagon going to divert attention from the real issues of the day.
I am sure most of Barnet's pensioners are far more concerned at having been robbed of their pensions by Gordon Brown than by Brian Gordon's fancy dress costume.
