A British Legion building could be demolished and replaced with flats.
Plans have been put to Hertsmere Council to knock down the former Royal British Legion Club in Cotton Road, Potters Bar, to build a community hall and four two-bed flats.
In a letter to planning officers, agent Innes Gray said: “The site has been in the ownership of British Legion for in the region of 100 years and as with many other clubs nationwide they are now struggling to make some of the clubs financially viable due to falling membership numbers and increased overhead costs.
“This particular club has now formally closed and no longer trades and therefore the buildings have become almost dormant. The British Legion therefore wishes to redevelop the site enabling them to recycle revenue into providing the services they are well known for.”
A decision is to be made next month.
