Two men have been jailed for a smash and grab robbery at a jewellery shop in Golders Green.
Shortly after 3.45pm on February 18, Michael Edgar, 25, and Kane Franzese, 24, were spotted by an unmarked police car driving along North End Road on a motorbike, paying particular attention to the Wagonmark pawnbrokers and jewellers shop.
They drove onto the pavement, and Edgar, the passenger, got off the bike.
Franzese then reversed it, before smashing it into the front door of the shop.
Officers ran over to the shop and detained both men after a violent struggle, during which an officer was elbowed in the face.
Both men were arrested on suspicion of robbery and stealing the bike.
They were charged on February 19 and pleaded guilty at court on March 13. They were sentenced at Kingston Crown Court on May 14.
Edgar, of The Grove, Finchley, was jailed for three years for attempted robbery, aggravated vehicle taking, driving dangerously on roads and using a vehicle without insurance.
Franzese, of Bell Lane, Hendon was jailed for three years for attempted robbery, dangerous driving, handling stolen goods and using a vehicle without insurance.
Detective Constable Matt Mowbray said: "I hope that the sentences received by Edgar and Franzese not only demonstrate the seriousness of their crime and the fear and misery that they brought to the victims, but serve as a warning to others that the Met will disrupt organised criminal networks and ensure they are brought to justice."
Sergeant Pete Dearden of the Barnet Pro-Active Unit said: "This sentence reflects the seriousness of the offence being committed. The officers involved recognised the severity of what was unfolding in front of them, reacting immediately without fear. As a result two violent offenders were swiftly apprehended preventing harm to the public during a high value robbery."
