A football tournament and family fun day will be held in memory of a murdered schoolboy.
Kiyan Prince, a promising footballer who played for Queen's Park Rangers under-16s team, was stabbed to death outside the London Academy in Spur Road, Edgware, in May 2006.
His father Mark Prince set up the Kiyan Prince Foundation, which works to reduce street violence among young people, in his memory.
The foundation will hold a five-a-side tournament at Power League, in Pursley Road, Mill Hill this Sunday to mark the ninth anniversary of the 15-year-old's death.
Almost a decade on, Mr Prince remains committed to moving young people away from violence.
He said: “The work has been very, very successful. We have seen many young people’s lives impacted in a positive way. I am going to keep on going until we get a place of our own. Our vision is very clear, we know exactly what we are trying to achieve.
“The message is that we all need each other, and we all need to support each other. We are losing our kids. We should all be looking at it from the same page. Take back control, we can only do that as a community.”
He added: “I am always grateful, without people’s support the charity is nothing.”
Steve Wayne, from Benjamin Stevens Estate Agent, is helping organise the event.
He said: “The most important thing is about awareness and remembering Kiyan. He went out and tried to protect his friend, and got caught in the middle of it.
“Mark has done a lot of workshops with kids, to get them out of that kind of culture. The problem is there are not enough things out there for kids to do. The more people like Mark, the better. Anything we can do to help to raise awareness is great.”
The tournament costs £20 per player and kick off is at 1pm. There will be food, face painting and a bouncy castle.
