Parliamentary candidates will be quizzed about their education policies at a hustings event.

The Barnet National Union of Teachers (NUT) education question time will take place on Thursday, April 23 at Hendon School, in Golders Rise, Hendon, from 6.30pm to 8pm.

Candidates standing in Hendon, including Ben Samuel for the Green Party, Alasdair Hill for the Liberal Democrats, and Andrew Dismore for Labour, will take questions on issues including academies, Ofsted, the use of unqualified teachers and curriculum changes. Conservative candidate Matthew Offord has also been invited.

Christine Blower, general secretary of the NUT, will also join the panel, along with Friern Barnet School headteacher Simon Horne and Jasmin Parsons, residents’ spokeswoman for the West Hendon Community Campaign. Journalist Melissa Benn will chair the event.

Keith Nason, Barnet NUT division secretary, said: “With a general election in just a few weeks it is time we addressed the issues that affect our children and teachers and ensure that politicians listen.”
