Liberal Democrat MEP Sarah Ludford visited Childs Hill to discuss crime prevention and policing.
During her visit, Ms Ludford met with Barnet Liberal Democrat candidates Jonathan Davies and Charlotte Henry, who are standing in the local election on May 22.
The candidates have been campaigning for longer opening times at the “police shop” in Golders Green Road, where people can speak to their local Safer Neighbourhood Team.
Mr Davies said: “The Liberal Democrats are putting forward practical measures, such as the enforcement of alcohol-free zones, to help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in Childs Hill.”
Sarah Ludford spoke to the pair about crime in the area and also shared her thoughts on the European Arrest Warrant.
She said: “If we stopped co-operating in the EU, the UK police would have been powerless to bring a man who committed armed robbery and assaulted an elderly man in Barnet back to face British justice after he fled to Romania.
“Because of the European arrest warrant and cooperation with the Romanian authorities Vasile Christian David is now serving time in a British jail for the crimes he committed.”
- Last week the Times Series wrongly reported that the Liberal Democrats had 39 candidates standing in the local elections on May 22. In fact they have 63. The Conservative Party and Labour also have 63 candidates each, while the Green Party has 49 and UKIP has nine. There are also three Independent candidates and two who are not affiliated to any party. The Times Series apologises for any confusion.
