Organisers of an annual music and literary festival have handed £50,000 to charity.
Money raised at the Proms at St Jude’s festival in Hampstead Garden Suburb was presented to North London Hospice and Toynbee Hall charities yesterday.
A total of £12,500 was given to the hospice, which cares for people who are terminally ill in Barnet and Enfield.
Judi Guy, North London Hospice’s community fundraising manager, said: “I would like to say a big thank you for the continued support that we receive from proms.
“This funding makes a huge difference to the hospice - it pays for more than 150 days of nursing in our inpatients unit.
“I speak on behalf of everyone at North London Hospice, but particularly those patients and their families who are directly affected by your kindness and generosity.”
The remaining £37,500 was handed to Graham Fisher, chief executive of Toynbee Hall, a charity which aims to reduce poverty in the East End of London.
Proms chairman Niamh O’Donnell-Keenan, said: “It is our sponsors, advertisers, ticket-buyers and volunteers who together make it possible for us to give this donation.”
Next year’s Proms at St Jude’s festival will take place from Saturday June 21 to Sunday June 29.
