Teachers will be encouraged to move their lessons outdoors as part of a new initiative promoting greener playtime and learning.

Barnet and Southgate College has launched its Forest Schools project at its Wood Street Campus in High Barnet.

Early years practitioners, teachers and youth workers will be invited to help pupils take part in activities they might not ordinarily do, develop team building and basic survival skills, bush craft and self-sufficiency skills.

Barnet and Southgate College Principal, David Byrne said:  “In previous generations children played outside, climbed trees and did all sorts of outdoor activities that just aren’t possible today, whether this is due to a city environment or for health and safety reasons.

“This focus on child-led learning is aimed at developing a child’s confidence and encouraging an empathy with nature and the great outdoors.”
