A man is fighting for his life in hospital after he was stabbed during a suspected brawl late on Saturday.

Two men in their thirties suffered knife wounds to the chest during the alleged fight, which police believe took place in front of dozens of onlookers in Oakleigh Road North, near to the junction with Beaconsfield Road.

Both men were taken to hospital, the second with non life-threatening injuries, and police have made one arrest.

Officers were called to reports of a disturbance in Oakleigh Road North at 11.10pm but the crowd had dispersed by the time they arrived.

Police believe the two injured men got into a car and made their way to Cambridge Roundabout, at the junction with Great Cambridge Road and the North Circular, where the London Ambulance Service was called at 11.15pm.

LAS sent three ambulance crews, the duty officer, who attends serious incidents, and the air ambulance crew in a car.

The pair were taken to an east London hospital where at least one remains in a critical condition.

Police cordoned off Beaconsfield Road on Sunday morning between the junctions with Oakleigh Road North and East Crescent.

A block of flats in Park Wood, a residential street off Beaconsfield Road, were also being treated as part of the crime scene.

The arrested man remains in police custody.
