A man collapsed and died in a busy street as he walked to work during rush hour this morning.
The man, believed to be in his fifties, suffered a suspected heart attack as he walked past The Moon Under Water pub in The Hyde, Colindale, at 6.30am.
Police and the London Ambulance Service were called by members of the public who stopped to try to help.
Witnesses saw paramedics carrying out CPR on the man before he was pronounced dead.
Officers lay a blanket over the body in front of horrified commuters making their way to work, many of whom tweeted about what they saw this morning.
The Metropolitan Police said the man’s next of kin has yet to be informed, but they believe he was on his way to work when he became ill.
A post mortem is expected to be carried out in the next 24 hours.
Rachel Zegerman saw what she described as a "funeral-type car" driven by a smartly dressed man arrive at the scene at about 10am to take the body away.
She said: "I was just walking past and saw the police standing around him - it was pretty scary.
"It is very sad. The poor man was probably just going about his business and the next thing he's collapsed."
Investigating officers are appealing for anyone who saw the man collapse to come forward.
Witnesses can telephone the non-emergency number 101 with information.
