Work has begun on a new housing quarter inspired by Swedish design.
The £108m development in Capitol Way, Colindale, is being carried out by developers Royal London Asset Management and Kitewood Development Partner Ltd.
The scheme, inspired by an urban regeneration project in Stockholm called Hammarby Sjöstad, will consist of 460 apartments arranged around an open space.
There will also be a retail space and an on-site crèche.
Developer and regenerator Network Housing Group will manage 215 of these apartments, some of which will be affordable.
Network Housing Group’s business development director Jeremy Stibbe said these houses would provide much needed mixed-tenure properties for current residents, potential buyers and renters alike.
He added: “This new development symbolises further positive change and transformation to the area.
“Colindale is a great location for those who want to live and work in London – the transport links into the city are superb and the whole neighbourhood around Capitol Way is being redeveloped into a buzzing commercial and residential hub.”
The development should be completed by 2015.
