Firefighters are tackling a blaze at a house in North Finchley believed to contain high-pressure gas cylinders.
Witnesses have reported seeing smoke from up to two miles away as fire crews deal with the flames at the address in Coleridge Road.
London Fire Brigade says the fire is affecting the roof and part of the first floor of the property, in which there is understood to be pressured gas cylinders.
Four fire engines, 21 firefighters, as well as police officers, are at the scene and crews are using an aerial lift to fight the flames.
Emergency services were called to the property at 3.27pm and fire crews from Finchley, Hornsey and Southgate are in attendance.
The cause of the blaze is yet to be established.
