Young bookworms developed a taste for the printed word when they raised thousands of pounds in a charity readathon.
Children from Akiva School, in East End Road, Finchley Central, held the sponsored reading marathon during book week at their school, which coincided with the Jewish festival of Shavuot.
The festival marks the giving of the Torah and gave the children the opportunity to link their reading with books explaining the importance of the Torah to Jewish people.
Staff and pupils donated the £3,000 raised to Great Ormond Street children’s hospital in central London.
A representative from the charity visited the school this week to collect a cheque.
