Essex and England cricketer Owais Shah gave students a batting masterclass when he visited a school in New Barnet.

The former Middlesex batsman, who has represented England in all forms of the game, gave a coaching lesson for 15 lucky boys at JCoSS, in Castlewood Road.

Owais recently returned from performing in this year’s big-hitting Indian Premier League for the Rajasthan Royals.

But the Pakistan-born cricketer taught the young sportsmen a few orthodox cricketing shots, a far cry from the slogging regularly seen in the IPL, as well as honing their bowling techniques on Tuesday.

The boys quizzed the international player at the end of the training session before having a chance to bowl at the middle-order batsman.

JCoSS student Harrison Leighton won tickets to see Owais play in a county match for Essex later this month when he managed to bowl the international player out during a game at the end.
