A derelict eyesore has been demolished by developers as they prepare to build a controversial new housing and office block in North Finchley.
The Furnitureland building has sat empty in High Road since 2006 and became the subject of numerous complaints from neighbours over its appearance.
Developers Turnhold Properties successfully submitted plans to build on the site after having a number of proposals rejected by the local authority over the years.
The company is now going ahead with its plans to build a five-storey development comprising 548 square metres of office space and four floors of flats, along with 61 car parking spaces.
Neighbours complained about the bulk and density of the development, near to the junction with Mayfield Avenue, but the plans were approved by Barnet Council’s planning committee on June 14 last year.
Demolition teams began work at the site last month and have completely razed the building before work begins on the new development later this summer.
