Hendon Wood Lane remains closed today due to ongoing road works and a burst water main.

Rush hour traffic was brought to a standstill in areas of Arkley and Mill Hill yesterday due to diversions around the busy access route to the A1.

Barnet Council is carrying out planned road works which are not due to be completed until June 10 at the latest.

The work includes the patch repairs, tree felling and ditch restoration.

Affinity Water engineers were forced to carry out emergency repairs to a burst pipe discovered during routine maintenance work on the same road yesterday.

A spokesman said this morning in a statement: "The repair to the burst main has now been completed and the work on reinstating the carriageway is taking place today and should be finished by mid-afternoon.

"The burst was on a 12-inch main that supplied homes in the area and was discovered in the course of installing a new water connection."
