He has only been in the role for a few days but Barnet’s new mayor is already getting stuck in to his civic duties.

Melvin Cohen, only the second councillor to be voted in for a second mayoral term, visited Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice in High Barnet with the mayoress, Cllr Wendy Prentice.

The charity is set to begin construction on a hospice building in Byng Road at a former college site owned by Barnet Council.

Ted Gladdish, CEO of Noah’s Ark, welcomed the mayor and mayoress to the charity’s High Barnet offices on Tuesday to tell them more about the plans.

He said: “Both were very supportive of the project and said that they looked forward to returning to Byng Road when the first digger arrives on site later this year."
