Hendon people will benefit from longer opening hours at a newly refurbished post office.

Hendon Central Post Office in Vivian Avenue has been transformed into a new-style open plan branch.

The post office will be open from 8.30am until 7.30pm Monday to Saturday, meaning customers can visit the post office before and after work.

The refurbished post office was officially opened on Friday by Hendon MP Matthew Offord.

He said: “The transformation of this office looks great. It is fresh and modern.

"The extended opening hours will be far more convenient for customers, which will benefit my constituents as they will have greater flexibility about when they visit. People can now call in before or after work or Saturday afternoons.”

The new look branch has four serving counters, three of which are screened and one which is  open plan and offers retail services, meaning customers can buy items at the same time as using post office services such as savings, insurance, loans, mortgages and credit cards.

Subpostmaster Ponniah Shanmugathas added: “Customers and staff really like the changes at this branch. It now looks very modern.

"Customers think the longer opening hours are fantastic – they are very pleased that they now have more choice about when they can visit.”

The refurbishment was part of the Post Office's national modernisation programme in the wake of its split from Royal Mail, which aims to make it easier for customers to do business through longer opening hours and modern, open-plan environments.
