A Jewish cultural centre in Golders Green will be hosting the country’s largest Jewish food festival.

The home of the London Jewish Cultural Centre (LJCC), Ivy House, will be throwing open its doors from 9.30am until 6pm for the fourth annual Gefiltefest on Sunday.

The festival, run by the Jewish food education charity Gefiltefest, will feature live cooking demonstrations from chefs including Alan Rosenthal, Denise Phillips and Rachel Davies.

Hester Abrams from Jewish Book Week will be talking to Costa Prize winner Francesca Segal about food in her novel The Innocents, Rachel Kolsky, author of Jewish London, will offer a virtual food tour of London and food campaigner Tristram Stuart will discuss food waste.

Visitors will learn about traditional and modern methods of pickling and krauting, discuss the merits of eating locusts and witness a Sephardi versus Ashkenazi cook-off.

Chief executive of the LJCC Louise Jacobs said: “The LJCC is delighted to be opening our doors once again to Gefiltefest and filling every room of Ivy House with education, discussion, tasting and enjoyment of Jewish food.

“We invite Londoners from all religions and cultures to come to celebrate the role Jewish food plays, and to experience it as the soul of Jewish life.”

The winners of the 2013 Jewish Food Awards will also be announced at the event, revealing the public’s opinions on the best kosher bagels, falafel, kosher restaurant and cheesecake in the UK.
