Barnet’s first Older People’s Assembly of 2013 attracted more than 200 people who gathered to hear about major changes to health and social care.
The community forum hosted speakers from the borough’s NHS clinical commissioning group and Barnet Council’s Health and Wellbeing Board, on which key leaders from the health and care system work together to improve the health and well-being of local communities.
Stan Davidson, on behalf of the assembly, spoke about the challenges facing older people in the borough in these areas.
Other speakers gave information on planning for later life and a number of information stalls were set up during the all-day event at Hendon Town Hall, in The Burroughs.
Assembly facilitator Sue Packman said: “We want to address the concerns of older people, particularly with regards to the NHS and social care.
“We provide a platform for older people to speak out and we work closely with the NHS and Barnet Council to influence better services for older people.
“Monday’s event went very well. We had a full agenda with a good mix of information and sociability.”
The assembly will meet again on International Older People’s Day on October 1.
