A national charity that supports people suffering from Alzheimer's disease is inviting Barnet residents to "join the conversation" about dementia.

The Alzheimer's Society in Barnet will host an information stand at Barnet Hospital from 10am until 12pm on May 20 and May 24 as part of Dementia Awareness Week.

Anyone who has concerns about dementia, whether they are worried about themselves, a loved one or just wish to know more, can meet staff and volunteers from the Alzheimer's Society and Barnet Carers at the stand, who will answer questions and provide information about local services.

Dementia affects more than 4,000 in Barnet and as many as 800,000 people in the UK, with the number of people affected set to rise to one million in the next ten years.

Barnet-based Alzheimer's Society dementia support worker Remi Oke said: "As the population ages, we all face the risk of one day developing dementia. The more we know about the condition, the more prepared we'll be to face it.

"This event is a great opportunity to find out more, talk to us, and join the conversation that everyone's talking about. We hope lots of people will join us this Dementia Awareness Week."
