A college student killed when he was hit by a train in Potters Bar has been named by police.
Benjamin Ingledew, from Potters Bar, died when he was struck by a Cambridge to Kings Cross train half a mile from the Darkes Lane station at 12.44am on Sunday.
Investigating officers are now trying to establish how and why he gained access to the tracks.
The 22-year-old was a student at the Royal Veterinary College, which has campuses in North Mymms and Camden.
The college posted a message of condolence on its official Facebook page this week.
It said: “We would like to send our condolences to Ben Ingledew's friends and family at this terribly sad time. Our hearts and thoughts are with you all.”
Staff and students at both campuses held a minute’s silence on Tuesday, followed by a memorial reception at the Camden campus.
The young man was killed almost instantly when he was hit by the train, which was due to stop at Potters Bar.
British Transport Police officers and paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service were called to the scene by the driver of the train in the early hours.
Mr Ingledew was pronounced dead at the scene and police say they are not currently treating the incident as suspicious.
An inquest has since been opened and adjourned while officers prepare a file for the coroner.
The Times Series is putting together a tribute to Mr Ingledew. Contact Chris Hewett on 07784510256 or chewett@london.newsquest.co.uk to contribute.
