A school looking to raise £26,000 to pay for new play equipment is proving you must work hard if you want to play hard.

Danegrove Primary School, in Windsor Drive, East Barnet, has already purchased the new climbing frames but the Parent Teachers’ Association (PTA) now has the tough task of raising cash to repay the school.

A May Fair is being held next weekend to gather important contributions to the new equipment, which was badly needed after the school’s old playground kit fell into disrepair.

Parent governor Michelle Eshkeri said: “The old frames were falling to pieces. It was really important that we got some new equipment in and the school was able to lend us the money to have it installed before Easter.”

The PTA is now looking to raise all of the money needed over the next two years, starting with the May Fair at the school on Sunday, May 19, between 11am and 3pm.

Organiser are hoping to raise more than £3,000 at the event, which includes a table top sale, BBQ, food stalls, games & competitions.

There will also be a main arena, where various school clubs and organisations will perform throughout the afternoon, including a Maypole dance, ballet and the award-winning robotics team from East Barnet School.

Mrs Eshkeri said: “We really want to raise some awareness and get as many people down as we can. We’re all crazily running round trying to organise things to raise the money but it will all be worth it.”
