Landowners need to take responsibility for an industrial park “festooned” with plastic bags, according to Green Party members.
Parts of the Tesco Retail Park in Colney Hatch Lane, Friern Barnet are littered with supermarket shopping bags and other rubbish caught in the thorny bushes.
Members of the Barnet Green Party carried out a litter pick on Saturday and spent almost three hours clearing seven bin bags of waste.
Party member Phil Fletcher said: “It was really, really bad. We’re not yet sure who owns the land, whether it is the council or Tesco, but either way we were doing them a favour with a bit of manual labour.
“We’re looking to follow it up to see why there is not a regular clean-up of the area. Someone needs to take responsibility.”
