A memorial plaque commemorating 14 Victoria Cross recipients will be unveiled at a special ceremony this weekend.
The Nabresina limestone plaque will depict the names of two Royal Navy officers and ten officers and two non-commissioned officers of the Army who have been cremated at Golders Green Crematorium since 1915.
Their decorations were won in conflicts of the late nineteenth century in India, South Africa, in the Great War and during the Second World War and were awarded between 1891 and 1943.
The installation of the memorial was funded by members of The Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Victoria Cross Committee. The group of volunteers initially want to see the name of Corporal James Upton, who served with The Sherwood Foresters, remembered at the place where his remains lie scattered.
When they realised other holders of this award had been cremated there too, they took it upon themselves to produce a memorial including all of the names.
The ceremony will be held in the grounds of Golders Green Crematorium on Sunday April 7 at 2pm.
