Five of Barnet’s brightest and best volunteers and one inclusive community organisation have been recognised for their contributions to the borough.
Rachely Plancey, Jane Porter, Prem Modgil, Dr Lalit Nirmal, and Adam Bass, as well as the Multicultural Centre Groups were each handed a civic award at a recent ceremony.
The winners were picked from 24 nominees made from within the communities where each have made an impact.
They were:
Adam Bass – who raised £150,000 to renovate Lyttleton Playing Fields.
Prem Modgil – who raised money for charities to sponsor health camps in India
Multi-cultural Centre Groups – which promotes the health and well being of older people and community cohesion.
Dr Lalit Nirmal – who has worked supporting local health initiatives.
Rachely Plancey – who set up local charity Camp Simcha to support the families of those dealing with ill children.
Jane Porter – who raised money for many charities and worked for the local Jesus Hospital Charity.
Speaking at the ceremony, on Thursday, March 22, Barnet Mayor Brian Schama said: “I’m really pleased to reward these residents for all the hard work they do in making our borough a better place to live.
“Each person gives us their free time and enthusiasm without asking for anything in return.”
