A rugby team is looking for volunteers and participants to help make its annual fundraising walk a success.

Players and supporters of Watford-based Fullerians RFC are planning to walk the 11 miles from their grounds in Coningesby Drive to Allianz Park stadium, the home of Saracens FC, to raise money for a new clubhouse.

The rugby team is now looking for people to join in the walk, to act as stewards and organise refreshments. Fullerians are also seeking sponsorship from local businesses to help pay for refreshments and the return coach ride.

Walk organiser Pat O’Keefe said: “We aim to have the new clubhouse up and running in time for the 2015 rugby world cup.

“It will be a fun day out and we invite any other clubs within walking distance to join us.”

Mr O’Keefe hopes to complete the walk wearing the Saracens Sarrie the Camel mascot suit and will also raise money for the Peace Hospice in Watford.

The walk coincides with Saracens' last game of the season. The walkers plan to arrive at Allianz Park in Greenlands Lane in time to watch the Saracens versus Bath match on May 4.

Mr O'Keefe has ordered 300 tickets for the Saracens game, which he hopes to sell to participants to help with the fundraising efforts.

He said: “Saracens has been very generous with the tickets under their cash back scheme. For every adult ticket I sell, Sarries will donate £5 to the club house fund.

“Sarries does a lot to help our events work. It always goes the extra mile in helping local clubs, both with offering coaching and training and supporting walks like this.”
