A sports car was chased by police into a narrow residential street where it crashed head-on with another vehicle.
Officers started chasing the silver Mercedes A160 after the driver refused to pullover in Brent Street, Hendon, at 3.42pm last Friday.
The male driver sped off with the police in hot pursuit – but just three minutes later as he attempted to make his escape into Tenterden Gardens he crashed into a another car.
The driver jumped out of the vehicle and ran away from the scene, escaping arrest.
No one was injured in the crash although both cars were damaged including another parked vehicle.
Venetia Suchdev who has lived in the road for 30 years said: “I heard the police sirens when I was walking home – but you never think it’s going to be on your street. I was pretty surprised to find it was.
“Given that it’s an area where we’ve got a school it could have ended far worse – but the assailant isn’t going to take that into account when he’s trying to get away from the police.
“It’s dangerous driving fast into a residential road but then again, how are police going to do their job otherwise?”
Sheela Cohen, who has lived in the road for 20 years, agreed: “It's scary but at the end of the day I’d want the police to catch whoever they’re chasing.”
Police are looking for the driver of the Mercedes who is described as a black male of slim build who was wearing a beige top and light coloured denim jeans.
