A 99-year-old woman broke her neck when she was involved in a car crash days before her 100th birthday.
The elderly woman was a front-seat passenger in a Saab when it careered into a traffic island on the North Circular Road in Finchley, at the junction with Regents Park Road and the A1, shortly after 10pm on Monday.
The driver, a 38-year-old relative of the woman, and his wife and two small children, who were in the back of the car, were uninjured.
Paramedics treated the woman for serious facial injuries and a broken neck before she was taken to St Mary's Hospital, where she remains in a stable condition.
The woman is due to celebrate her centenary on Easter Monday.
No arrests have been made but police are asking witnesses to contact them on 020 8842 1817.
