Officers investigating the disappearance of a pensioner with dementia have discovered a body.
Alarms were raised when 77-year-old William Lee was last seen leaving his home in Stoke Newington on Thursday.
A man's body was found in Mays Lane in Barnet at approximately 4pm yesterday.
Mr Lee’s family have been informed, although officers are waiting for formal identification of the body.
The pensioner, who was also known as Bill, was suffering from the early stages of dementia and was described as “well spoken” and “friendly”.
Yesterday morning, police were “particularly concerned” for his safety due to his condition, and called for the public to keep an eye out for Mr Lee, who they believed could have travelled to other boroughs.
The death is not believed to be suspicious at the stage. However, Hackney officers are continuing their enquiries to establish the full circumstances.
