Plans to extend and redevelop a Jewish care home in East Finchley have been unveiled today.
Care home charity Nightingale Hammerson plans a five-year redevelopment of Hammerson House in The Bishop’s Avenue to increase the capacity of the home by around 20 per cent.
The charity will submit a planning application to Barnet Borough Council with proposals for larger bedrooms, a hairdressing salon, therapy rooms and a coffee shop.
Each floor in the home will have its own dining room, lounge and activity area. A large space for concerts and communal meals will also be built if the plans are given the go-ahead.
Andrew Leigh, chief executive of the care home, said: “This is a very exciting time for Hammerson House and I am looking forward to watching the home evolve over the next five years.
“The aim of this redevelopment is to improve our facilities and broaden our range of care so that more Jewish people can live in quality care in North London.
"The care and wellbeing of our current residents is of paramount importance and every effort will be made to ensure there is a minimal impact on them during this time.”
The charity will launch a fundraising appeal later this year to support the redevelopment with refurbishment work beginning in May 2013 and more extensive construction starting in 2016.
