Colindale centenarian Sophie Pomper may have 100 years of memories to look back on, but she says she feels 45.

Mrs Pomper turned 100 on Monday but has had three parties to mark the occasion.

She said: “It’s been lovely. I’ve got a lovely birthday cake and a card from the Queen which was thrilling.

“I know I’m celebrating my 100th birthday but I can’t quite believe it – I feel 45.”

Friends and family joined Mrs Pomper for a tea party today at Daniel Court in Colindale where she has lived for 13 years.

Mrs Pomper married her husband Wally in 1934 and the couple had two children, Stanley Pomper and Elaine Jacobs. She has five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She worked as a secretary for a solicitor in central London before working as an administrator for New West End Synagogue in Bayswater for 18 years.

She said: “I had the most wonderful career and met some really interesting people – including Michael Winner.”

Mrs Pomper was continuing her birthday celebrations today with a visit from the Mayor of Barnet Councillor Brian Schama who joined residents at Daniel Court for tea and a chat.
