A new day centre for adults with learning difficulties has been given a £750 council grant to buy specialised equipment.

The Borehamwood Multi-Purpose Day service currently operates in Borehamwood but is opening another branch at the Cranbourne Centre, in Mutton Lane, Potters Bar.

About 30 of those using the Borehamwood centre come from Potters Bar and organisers are hoping to open the new premises closer to their homes by August.

Councillor Brian Legate donated the cash from the £1,000 pot he is given each year from Hertsmere Borough Council to hand out to volunteer organisations.

Assistant manager at the centre Peter Hardwick said: “We teach essential life skills, such as cooking, as well as creative skills such as art and crafts. The sensory equipment is particularly beneficial to users, offering experiences to help in calming, relaxation and wellbeing.”
