A woman was killed after being flung from the bonnet of a car during an apparent road rage hit-and-run yesterday evening.
Police say the woman, in her 30s, was involved in an altercation with a driver in East Barnet Road, New Barnet, at about 6.40pm.
Investigating officers say the victim ended up on the bonnet of the vehicle and was carried some distance before being propelled into a Belisha beacon at a zebra crossing near Sainsbury’s.
London Ambulance Service attended but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene with severe head injuries.
The car drove away from the incident but a woman has since been arrested and is being questioned at a north London police station this morning.
Police also recovered a Vauxhall Insignia in connection to the inquiry.
It is not yet clear if the victim was driving a car before she became involved in the altercation.
Formal identification is yet to take place but a post mortem is expected this afternoon or first thing tomorrow morning.
Detectives from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are being called in to take over the investigation.
