A salsa queen is putting a married couple through their paces as they get ready to compete in next month’s Dancing Strictly competition.
Dance instructor Mina Queen Salsa has been pushing Kevin and Carmel English to master their footwork before they compete with 11 other couples in aid of North London Hospice on Saturday February 9.
Kevin, 41, said: “I’m really looking forward to getting out there and doing it now. Dancing is something I’ve never done before so it’s totally outside my comfort zone but it’s great fun.”
As well as facing the pressure on the dance floor the couple also has to raise £500 for the hospice which supports people with life limiting illnesses.
Carmel, 42, of Whetstone, said: “Before my dad died of Alzheimer’s my mum cared for him at home. She was exhausted so I know how much a hospice is needed for all the family, not just the person who’s ill.
“Fundraising is also an important lesson to teach our children.”
The pair will be cheered on by their daughters Laura, 11, and Charlotte, eight, who are excited to watch their mum and dad on stage at the Millfield Theatre.
Carmel added: “Our son Michael is too embarrassed to come and watch so he’s heading to Scouts. But hopefully we’ll do everyone proud.”
