Known as ‘the singers’ singer’, Joe Longthorne is bringing his unique blend of music and impersonation to Potters Bar in an intimate show that sees Joe on stage with just two grand pianos, and spans his entire 40-year career.

“It’s battling pianos,” says the 57-year-old, “we have a good laugh. We’ve never done this with the two pianos before but the feedback is good, people like the intimacy. I chat with the audience, ask them what they want me to sing, who they want me to impersonate.

“There’ll be some of my own original tunes in there, which people seem to be enjoying, plus all my popular covers. My impressions go down well – particularly Shirley Bassey and David Bowie. I also do Tony Bennet and Barry Manilow.”

Joe first came to the public eye as a singer and impressionist on LWT’s Search for a Star in 1981 and his success on the show led to appearances at the London Palladium, his own TV show, The Joe Longthorne Show, and performances all over the world. In 2007, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Variety Club of Great Britain.

Joe’s first album in ten years, The Impossible Dream, came out last year – that and his current tour are remarkable achievements as Joe has only recently recovered from leukaemia and a bone marrow transplant.

“I look back and count up the things I’ve achieved and I can say, ‘Wow, that’s a lot’,” says Joe. “I’m a lucky man, I’m blessed. I’ve had a good do.”

Joe Longthorne plays Wyllyotts Theatre, Darkes Lane, Potters Bar on Thursday, June 14 at 8pm. Details: 01707 645005, www.wyllyottstheatre.co.uk
