It takes more than just sun cream to look after your skin while on holiday, let alone your hair. Thankfully we have found the best beauty products to keep you in a tip-top, tanned condition...
Prep your skin with Kerstin Florian's face serum, formulated to protect against sun damage on the sensitive facial areas prone to ageing. Vitamin E and Chamomile combined with sunscreen act as a daily protector against sun exposure that also fight signs of premature ageing. The Face Serum SPF 25 calms redness while soothing and nourishing the skin.
One prepped use Oxygenetix. I was hesitant to believe a foundation could be as breathable as this. Not only is it light on the skin, almost like nothing was there, but it stops the skin looking shiny and so perfect for all day use throughout the summer. It doesn’t smudge due to perspiring and doesn’t clog pores and so can be worn whilst exercising and is even water resistant and rub proof. It is oil-free and fragrance-free while containing SPF25 UVA/UVB protection.
Then throughout the day spritz with Sukin's hydrating mist. It combines chamomile and rosewater, while being alcohol-free, this helps soothe, tone and cool tired skin. Great for combating the skin drying effects of airplane air-conditioning systems it can also be used to keep you cool when you reach your destination. Celebrity fans include Emma Watson, who described the mist as an essential part of her skincare prep ahead of her recent press tour for Beauty and the Beast.
For your hair, Aquis hair towel is a game changer. Hair loses 60 per cent of its strength when wet, due to keratin proteins absorbing all the water; hair fibres then stretch and rupture, causing frizz and hair breakages. The sooner you dry hair, the less it swells and stretches. The woven structure leads to faster drying time, meaning hair reaches a damp level quicker, where it starts to regain its strength.
Either while still damp or when dry, put some of Paul Smith's Total Treat argan oil cream through it. It helps lock in moisture to heal dry, damaged hair and restore smoothness.
Here you have creams for day and night, if you're not using high SPF sun lotion during the day and aftersun at night. Palmer's has a lightweight formula is suitable for all skin types and won't clog pores. It supports collagen production, calms irritation, is loaded with anti-oxidants and has light, fast absorbing moisture with the bonus of SPF protection. For somebody with fair skin, or somebody wary of the damaging effects of the sun all year round, it is a good product to have all year round - it is now a firm favourite of mine.
In the evening, switch to Incognito Skin Moisturiser. As well as enriching moisturising properties, it has organic Java citronella w3hich provides protection from insect bites.
Two types of innovative aftersun here, with very different qualities. HealGel is cooling on the skin, but absorbs easily. It is best for use if you need to continue with your day without your skin feeling drench, offering quick and light relief. This also makes it effective for cooling irritated skin and heat rashes.
However, the natural liquid spray from DermaSun is a rich formula that leaves the skin feeling consistently moist for long-term effects, making it perfect for overnight use to really absorb deeply. It sprays on so if the damage is really bad, skin won’t be irritated with rubbing.
Oils are a good and versatile product to pop in your luggage. The Jojoba oil can be used for all sorts, such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, rosacea, coldsores, signs of skin ageing, skin pigmentation, skin tone, stretch marks and acne. For holidays you can apply to hair before jumping in the pool to avoid discolouring, use as a gentle make up remover, an eye cream and even on insect bites. It deeply moisturises after a day in the sun to help heal any damage.
Not dissimilar, the Cocofina coconut oil can be used for all of the above. The brand even recommends mixing with natural sugar for a homemade exfoliator.
These products can be used from head-to-toe. So if you want to limit the number of products they are an ideal solution. The NectaPerfecta Beautifying Mask is charged with potent British bee ingredients to maximise the effectiveness of any skincare regime. It is perfect for dry areas like feet, elbows and even scalps scorched by the sun
The Beauty Kitchen Abyssinian Oil Handbag Beauty Balm is multi-purpose for all skin types that works to enrich the skin to restore a natural glow. Use it as a rich cleanser, a gentle exfoliator or a deeply nourishing balm to quench areas of dry or dehydrated skin.
