Hopefully you won’t be stranded at the drive-in like Danny Zuko in Grease when the, Rooftop Film Club speeds into Brent Cross next week.
And hopefully April showers won’t descend like they did at the Ally Pally sister event, which put a bit of a dampener on the screening of Back to the Future at first.
Mainly it was due to the fact we had to queue in the rain for the hot food. Luckily it was worth the wait and once we were safely back in our car, wipers and heaters on the undeniable romance of a drive-in began to take hold.
Really it combines all that is best about both the cinema AND staying at home. You get to see the film on the big screen, but can control the volume through your radio and you don’t have to put up with any annoying neighbours encroaching on your space or spilling popcorn on you. And you can text, take selfies and Tweet to your hearts content. Or just snuggle up with your other half, if so inclined.
If you get peckish you simply hit the hazards and an attendant will whizz up to you with sweets, drinks and popcorn top-ups.
Due to overwhelming demand the Drive-In Film Club has now added extra dates for the Spring Tour and on April 15 will be heading back to where it all started in Brent Cross.
There really is something for everyone from the latest blockbuster releases with the multi award-winning Gravity, Anchorman 2: The Legend continues, Captain Phillips, Rush, and The Butler to drive in favourites including Back to the Future, Top Gun, Dirty Dancing and Grease.
Entry is charged at £22 per car regardless of occupants.
- Brent Cross Shopping Centre, South (NCR) car park, NW4 3FP, April 15-27 (excluding April 19 and 21), car park opens 1.5 hours before screening, times vary. Details: experiencecinema.com
