New Barnet signings Danny Senda and Dean Brill are enjoying the start to their first Bees’ campaign after two away wins from the first two games of the season.
Both Brill and Senda played in victories against Morecambe and Portsmouth and have settled in well to life at Underhill.
Senda played under Barnet boss Lawrie Sanchez when both were at Wycombe Wanderers.
The 30-year-old said he is enjoying working with the boss that handed him his debut at the Chairboys back in 1999.
He said: “He has very good discipline to his sides and gets the squad organised. He sets us out so we all know our jobs and he makes it very clear what he wants from you and from the team.
“But after working with Lawrie in the past and after training with the lads, when I was offered the chance I jumped at it.”
He added although there were teams in the north chasing his signature part of the lure of joining the Bees was the fact they were/are? a London club.
“It has been nice and I have been welcomed into the side. It is good coming back to a London club where all the boys are local and there are good personalities in the dressing room.”
The opportunity to move a local side was also a factor in former Oldham keeper Brill joining the Bees.
The 25-year-old, like Senda, had been on trial with the club before signing a contract and impressed in games against aTottenham XI and MK Dons.
Brill said: “The club is local for me as I only live up the road and I met Lawrie and the lads and I felt it was a really good opportunity for me.
“There is always talk about other clubs, but once I got in to Barnet and things got sorted I was very pleased to be joining and happy to be part of what we are doing here.
“We have a really good group of lads here and all the guys have a good laugh and a joke but when it comes down to a game we get down and work hard.”
With the Bees’ impressive start to the season it has surprised Senda that Barnet needed a final day goal from Izale McLeod to keep them in the league last campaign.
He said: “It is a bit of a surprise to me but it can be a case of injuries, suspensions taking their toll because it is not down to a lack of ability.
“Maybe the club has been unlucky in the last couple of years but hopefully everyone can stay injury free and we all stick to our jobs and we will be alright this year.”
Brill echoed the thoughts of his defensive colleague.
The keeper said: “You are never too good to be down near the bottom, but from what I have seen the club has a good group of players who have a lot of talent and commitment.
“I think we can do whatever we want to do this season if we carry on the way we have started.”
