Cyclists concerned about the lack of safe road crossings on the North Circular organised a protest ride yesterday.
Eighty cyclists joined The Great Divide Ride at New Southgate Rail Station at 10am and rode 16 miles, including across all the road crossings on the North Circular within Barnet, before ending at Staples Corner in Cricklewood.
The protesters, including a seven-year-old, wanted to highlight the lack of provision for cyclists on the North Circular.
The ride, organised by the London Cycle Campaign, was particularly focused upon improving safety at the Brent Cross Flyover, Staples Corner and Henlys Corner.
The cyclists hope their protest will encourage the council to install more cycle-friendly road crossings.
David Shannon, co-ordinator of Barnet’s Cycling Campaign, said: “It was a fantastic day, the sun shone and there was a great turn out.
“A number of councilors have expressed their support, so we are at least coming on to the radar.”
