Embarrassment reigns at Barnet Council following the release of a video which appears to show binmen disposing of industrial waste.
The video, which appears to have been filmed in secret, was posted on YouTube on July 29.
It seems to show Barnet Council binmen in Page Road, Mill Hill, allowing two men to throw items including bags of cement and mattresses into the back of a refuse truck.
The cameraman, who currently remains anonymous, can be heard to comment: “This is what we are paying our council tax for, can you believe it?”
The eight minute video, which was filmed on July 23, also shows the binmen disposing of large pieces of wood and metal.
A council spokesperson said: “Having viewed the video we can confirm three members of the council’s refuse team have been identified and a full disciplinary investigation is being carried out.
"This is not what the council would expect from its staff and takes incidents of this kind extremely seriously.”
Industrial waste disposal is the responsibility of the company creating the waste.
It should be taken to a designated dump or disposed of by a licensed company registered with the Environment Agency.
The cost of industrial waste disposal varies but is usually determined according to weight.
