A young classical musician from Woodside Park visited Whitings Hill Primary School in High Barnet yesterday afternoon to talk to pupils and to play his saxophone.

Tyler Rix, 19, who attended Dame Alice Owen’s School, Potters Bar, visited the Whitings Road school in an attempt to inspire the pupils to achieve their dreams.

Mr Rix, who is to be an Olympic torchbearer on Wednesday, is a saxophone player and recorded an album which reached number one in the classical album charts in 2009.

Alongside his music, Mr Rix is a model and has appeared in publications including The Times and Tatler.

He is also a talented footballer, and from the age of seven played football in the West Ham Academy for talented young footballers.

While visiting Whitings Hill School he spoke to, and performed for, all of the pupils from Reception to Year 6, as well as for many of their parents.

He said: “I was so happy because the kids really enjoyed the songs I chose. They found it really funny.

“By the end they were all screaming their heads off and singing along.”

Mr Rix is currently a full time student of jazz performance at Trinity Laban music conservatory in Greenwich where he is undertaking a four-year degree course.
